Well, this can just be a 3 word review. MARANA MASS MAXXX.
Petta is an out and out Rajinikanth show, with great support from Karthik, Anirudh, Nawazuddin and Vijay Sethupathi.
Firstly, Thank you Karthik Subbaraj for showing us the Thalaivar we were all waiting for, for more than a decade. Kudos to you for using our Thalaivar to the fullest; to show us what he is truly capable of pulling off, at the ripe old age of 69 when most of us will be content watching soaps sitting on an easy chair.
I watched the movie twice on 10th Jan 2019, the day of release. There are multiple hair-raising moments in the movie, which had the same sort of impact the second time I watched it too. My favourite was the interval block! Beautifully written and directed, where 2 different characters (at different locations) simultaneously build up Rajinikanth’s character for us. Karthik Subbaraj has his mark even in a Thalaivar OVERDOSE movie. Hats off!
Nawaz comes across as the Silent Killer Villain. Scores biggg in a flashback scene, showcasing us what he’s made of. Limited scope otherwise. Vijay Sethu does justice to his character Jithu. Not too much scope for Simran, Trisha and Sasikumar though they play their parts well. The lady who plays “Poongodhai” has done a good job too.
Anirudh is a BIG plus to the movie. Just elevates the Thalaivar moments to a different level with his background score. I wouldn’t be wrong if I say this is his best background score till date. Among songs, “Ullala” stood out to me. Mass!
“Petta” is not just a movie; it is a festival for Rajinikanth fans around the world which will be celebrated not only in Cinemas but also every time it’s played on Sun TV, for the next few decades.
Are you “Rajinified” yet?
